Third Person

"She said she likes it there."
"Really?"
"Ya. I asked her if she gets lonely. She said no. When she does she just calls someone, or goes down to the cafe with a magazine."
"Do you think she's telling the truth?"
"I don't know. I think so."
"I'm worried about her."
"Why? She has you and me, she has a job that she likes, and she has an amazing view."
"I wish that was all I thought she needed to be happy."
"What do you think she needs?"
"...I don't know. Something."

Clouds in my Coffee

My friend, Audra found a book of questions on my bookshelf tonight.

She opened it and asked, "What's the smell that makes you feel comforted and safe?"

I answered, "candles and coffee."

Audra interrupted to ask, "Oooh! If you could eat a cloud, what would it taste like?! I think it would taste like cotton candy!"

"Dirt. Dirt and water," I said.

We laughed! It stunned both of us that "dirt" was really what came to mind and rolled out my mouth.

I've had this question book for a long time. Once upon a time, I answered the cloud question the same way she did: cotton candy.

Wonder what happened? Is it a good or bad thing?

Not as Planned

As I carried my half-eaten bowl of soup to the kitchen, I said, "Well. Today didn't go as planned."
Then I thought, "What day goes as planned?"
