Life So Simple?

"Just be good, it seems like, is the point of life; be kind to people; don't hate anybody; forgive people because we all make mistakes. I know there are always going to be exceptions to this kind of thinking, but it seems like life would be better if we could just let go of the thought we need more and more stuff to be happy, more and more of the approval of others."

- Don Miller, Through Painted Deserts

What do you think?

Well hello dear,

Long time no chat. I am in the middle of writing part of my thesis final and thougth I would take a break and see what you were metamorphing as of late.

down to business ; )

This is a very nice all around idea, unfortunetly, it is also very unrealistic. People, by nature, do care quite a bit about what others think. And in the society that we have built today, status and possesions are one of the top benchmarks used to measure the success of a person. I am absolutely of the opinion that people shoudl try and be good to one and other; if that was not ingrained in someone being raised then I pity them. But, the idea that we need to worry about the aquisition of "things" less and focus more on just being happy with what we have is a long way off from happening. The theory is very similar in reality as is man building an underwater habitat that could sustain life for thousands of people at the bottom of the ocean. The idea is incredibly awesome, maybe even a little intoxicating, but it is just something that people are not ready for. Good post though, and I like to see reflection on postive things like this.

I miss ya

Adam,

Thank you for your comment!

I miss you, too, and hope things are going well. Intoxicatingly well, as if you and your love are living together in an underwater habitat. It's a happy thought, isn't it? Only in theory, of course. ;)
