Priceless Princess
As I was taking my sugar cookies out of the oven tonight, I was also eavesdropping on a conversation my cutesy princess niece was having with a family friend of ours (whom she probably views as her secret boyfriend). I'm so glad I was! I could have missed out on hearing one of the most perfect little-princess conversations ever! :)
The conversation went like this:
Toby (seeing two brand new Barbies on the kitchen table): "Are these new Barbies, Ally?"
Ally (shrugging, as if she didn't really value them or notice they were there): "Sure."
Toby: (sarcastically) "Oh ya. I forgot. You don't play with Barbies, do you, Ally? You ride skateboards. Ya right."
Ally: (wanting to impress Toby with her tougher side; offended he hadn't picked up on it yet with her shrug-off of the new Barbies) "Hey! I have a skateboard!"
Toby: (surprised) "You do?!"
Ally: (relieved he'd asked) "Ya! ...It's a princess one! Wanna see it?!"
Toby went out to see it, coming back to gleefully report that when he'd asked to ride it, Ally said "no," her skateboard was only for girls:
"It's only for magic princesses," she said.
...Priceless.
